Barbara Read Kennedy, 70, of Rotonda West, FL, a native of Arcadia and former resident of Punta Gorda, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Tidewell Hospice House of Englewood, Florida.
Barbara was born on February 18, 1944 in Arcadia, Florida to the late Nellie (nee-Holton) and James T. Read. Barbara, who overcame at an early age the many challenges from congenital deafness, was an active, loving mother, grandmother and wife, who will be missed by her family and friends who knew and loved her dearly.
She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Lewis Wayne Kennedy of Rotonda West, FL; a son, Philip Dignan, Jr. of Sterling, VA; a daughter, Nelda Knapik of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Tori Knapik; sisters, Nell Owens, Joyce Crownover, and Peggy Cole; a brother, Tommy Read, and many extended family members.
A Memorial Gathering and service will be held beginning at 4 P.M. Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Gilchrist Park Gazebo in Punta Gorda.
Private burial will be held later at Indian Spring Cemetery, Punta Gorda.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara's name are suggested to Tidewell Hospice.
