Joyce Garland Calvert, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, 84, passed away on March 24, 2015 with family by her side. Joyce is a native Texan, born in Navarro County to the union of Charles and Lucy M Brown Garland.... she lived on the northside of Houston for over 60 years. She was a faithful member of the Lindale Church of Christ. She graduated from Sam Houston High School as Salutatorian of her class following which she met and married Jack Calvert in 1949. Jack and Joyce have two children, Dan and Glenda, and she loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids and many cousins. She was active with her children in Scouts and the P.T.A. Joyce worked for HISD as a secretary for many years before thoroughly enjoying her retirement. Jack and Joyce enjoyed traveling together with the Lone Star Sams RV Club, who were like a second family. They also enjoyed travel with family and friends around the US and internationally and loved to visit new places. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Lucy Garland; grandson, Brandon Calvert; and daughter-in-law, Martha Calvert.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Calvert; son, Dan Calvert; daughter, Glenda Koctar and husband, Randy; granddaughter, Courtney Shelton and husband, Shane; grandson, Russell Wiggins and wife, Amber; granddaughter, Randi Hissom and husband, Matt; and great-grandchildren: Andrew and Josh Wiggins, and Jackson Shelton. There will be a visitation on Friday, March 27 from 5-8pm. The services will be held on Saturday, March 28 at 11am. Both services will take place at Brookside Funeral Home in Houston. Interment will follow in Brookside Memorial Park.
