She was born to Hans and Martha (Moke) Hemeyer. She was a 1959 graduate of Stickney High School.
Jeanette was married to Roger Mathis in Mitchell, SD in 1959. They farmed near Mitchell, for nine years,before they they purchased a motel in Ft. Morgan, CO. In 1971, they traded that motel for the Best Western Motel in Sundance.
In 2008, Jeanette retired and was able to more fully pursue her passions in painting, golfing, gardening, volunteering, and reading interesting books.
She taught water aerobics for over 15 years and volunteered at the Bella Pregnancy Resource Center in Spearfish.
She is survived by six children
