Velma P. Peila, 90, died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 24, 2016. Velma was born on August 19, 1925 in Blairsville, PA. daughter of the late Peter and Matilda (Nicol) Peila, Velma was raised in Manchester, attended local schools and was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1943. Living most of her life in Manchester, after retiring in 1979 she moved to East Hartford to be closer to her sister and her family. Velma was employed as an Administrative Assistant for the State of Connecticut for over 29 years, working for the director of personnel for the Health Department. She was a longtime Communicant of St. James Church in Manchester, as well as St. Christopher Church in East Hartford. Velma is survived by her sister; Nedra Gallo of South Windsor, her niece; Gianna (Gallo) Stebbins and her husband Keith of Willington, her nephew; Gregory Gallo and his wife Andrea of South Windsor, three grandnephews; Philip Stebbins and Vincent and Domenic Gallo and two grandnieces; Olivia Stebbins and Milena Gallo. In addition to her parents, Velma was predeceased by her brother-in-law; Gaetano Gallo. Velma’s family would like to thank her caregivers Lealtor and Norma for their kind and compassionate care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 11:00 am in St. James Church, 896 Main St. Manchester. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
