James Henry Smith, of Beloit, formerly of Orfordville, passed away on July 29, 2016 at home in Beloit. He was born June 9, 1929 in LaFarge, WI, the son of Omery Freeman and Salma Adella (Anderson) Smith. James married in 1951. He farmed for 21 years, and was employed at GM for 37 years, retiring in 1992. Jim was always willing to lend a helping hand to farmers in the Orfordville area. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and served for forty years as Chairman of the Church board and as President of Maple Grove Cemetery, Orfordville. He is survived by his spouse; son; daughters; brother; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, David James Smith; 3 grandsons; and sisters, Lillian Dempsey and Lois Coleman. Newcomer-Silverthorn Funeral Home.
