Mac was born in College Hill, Texas, to the late Otto Young McBride and Nora Jewel Alexander McBride, and lived in several Texas towns during his early years. He attended school in Fairfield, Texas, but chose to get a job in a CCC camp to help his family survive the depression. He then worked in the shipyard in Houston until World War II, when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served during the war in the shipyard in San Diego, repairing the ships to return to the conflict in the Pacific Theater.
After the war, he worked in the Middle East for two years helping develop the oil fields. When he returned from the Middle East, his family had moved to Corsicana, so he joined them there. He went to work at Adams Hat Factory in Corsicana and worked there for 47 years.
While at the hat factory, he met Lorene Bonner, and they were married in 1950. They enjoyed 66 years together. He was very talented with his hands, not only shaping hats, but also making deer feeders. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed deer and turkey season with all his hunting buddies. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Corsicana.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Glendon Young McBride and Otto Lawrence McBride; and a sister, Mavis L. Trubell.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene McBride; sister-in-law, Marie McBride; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. I5
