Edwin W. Svehlak, 73, passed away on September 22, 2016, in Ennis, Texas. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2016, in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Liturgy Outside Mass will be at 11 a.m., Monday, September 26, 2016, in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Father Fred Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Edwin was born in Ennis, Texas, to the late Jerry and Lucy (Honza) Svehlak. He grew up in Ennis and graduated from St. John High School in 1961. He married Ginny Kovar on July 20, 1963, and they made their home in Ennis. He served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, stationed in Germany, and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Edwin worked for various jobs over the years beginning at age 13, including a grocery store, roofing company, and retired from Ennis Paint in 2012. He was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, KJT, KJZT, SPJST and Sokol. Edwin loved his polka music and he and his wife were great dancers until his health did not allow this.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Joe Svehlak.

Survivors include his wife of over 53 years, Ginny Svehlak; brothers, Frankie Svehlak and wife, Evelyn and Alfonse "Al" Svehlak and wife, Nancy; several nieces and nephews, and his special Goddaughter, Deanna Inman.
