Lewis M. Moore was killed by Charles Cox of Denison, Texas on Saturday night between midnight and one o’clock October 6, 1912 in Denison at 201 ½ Main at the Metropolitan Café and Pool Hall.

Lewis and several men from Platter, Oklahoma had gone into the pool hall to buy some drinks. Some trouble arose and Cox fired a thirty-eight pistol into the crowd striking Lewis Moore in the chest. Everyone was running to get out. Lewis Moore came down the stairs and fell into the arms of a night watchman by the name of Harve Wisdom. He was carried across the street to the Administration Building. A doctor was sent for but could do nothing to save him. Lewis died 35 minutes after he was shot.
Charles Cox was jailed and a coroner’s inquest was held Sunday by J.P. George French and Asst. County Attorney, J.H. Randall. Constable Oscar Boren also helped them.
At the inquest, Charles Cox said the shooting was an accident. A man by the name of T.T. Meyers, who lived north of Platter, testified at the inquest saying that he knew Lewis and that he had a wife and (2) small children.
He helped the undertaker get his clothes and shoes off. They found the bullet just inside his clothes. It had gone through his body and lodged inside his clothes. He was put on Katy train No. 3 and sent to Calera, Oklahoma where he was buried. The other witness who testified was John Nolan. He testified that he heard a shot and looked around and saw Charles Cox holding the gun. Charles Cox shot himself while he was in jail.
