Gladys Inez (McGee) Abor was born on September 26, 1925 to Walter and Corene McGee in Frosia, Texas. In 1945, she married James Abor, who predeceased her on September 29, 2007. She is survived by her only child, Jerome Abor, her four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In 1955, she relocated to Abilene, Texas where she worked as a domestic. She later enrolled in Hendricks School of Nursing where she received her LVN license and worked in nursing until she retired in 1988. She was a member of Plum Street Methodist Church serving as an officer in numerous positions. She was often called the matriarch of ICAN, an organization dedicated to cleaning up and ridding her neighborhood of drugs and crime. She was a wife, mother, and community activist.
