Gilbert J. Pincus The Doorman at Jimmy Ryan's Jazz Club from 1942-1980 was also known as The Mayor Of 52nd St. Immortalized in many Photos particularly the Photos of William Gottlieb who documented The Golden Age Of Jazz. Always ready and working, he died while on his way to his post at the door of the club when he was struck and killed by a truck not far from there.
