Vermont Governor. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Keyser graduated from Tufts University in 1950 and Boston University Law School in 1952. A Republican, he practiced law in Chelsea and served in local office including Town Auditor. Keyser served in the Vermont House of Representatives from 1955 to 1961, and was Speaker from 1959 to 1961. He was elected Governor in 1960, and served from 1961 to 1963. He was defeated for reelection in 1962, the first time Republicans had lost the office since the party's founding in the 1850s. After leaving office Keyser continued to practice law, and he served on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston from 1967 to 1972. He later pursued a business career as Vice President and General Counsel, and later Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of the Vermont Marble Company. He was also a longtime Director and Chairman of the Board of the Central Vermont Public Service Corporation.
