Distinguished Svc Cross
Bronze Star (Merit)
Purple Heart

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Specialist Fourth Class Kurt Karl Jobst, Jr. (ASN: US-52722630), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with Company D, 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry, 2d Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Fourth Class Jobst distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 23 August 1968 while serving as a radio telephone operator on an ambush patrol in the vicinity of Dau Tieng. The unit was suddenly attacked by a large North Vietnamese Army force. Although his position was directly exposed to heavy enemy fire, Specialist Jobst stayed with his radio, relaying vital information back and forth between his platoon leader and company commander. When his platoon leader was mortally wounded, Specialist Jobst continued to pass commands from his commander to the platoon until his radio was wrecked by an enemy rocket propelled grenade round. He then went from position to position, encouraging and assisting his fellow soldiers. Moving through a hail of bullets, he rescued casualties from several positions which were directly exposed to the North Vietnamese fusillade. His bravery was responsible for saving the lives of fourteen of his comrades. As he moved to the aid of a stricken comrade, he was mortally wounded by a burst of hostile automatic weapons fire. Specialist Fourth Class Jobst's extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty, at the cost of his life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army
