One of 13 Philadelphia firefighters who died in the horrendous Friedlander Leather Remnants factory fire on December 21st and 22nd, 1910. The walls of the factory collapsed on the firefighters. The fire remains the worst death toll in Philadelphia Fire Department history.

The Philadelphia Press; Saturday, December 24, 1910, Page 11:

"COLLINS – Suddenly, on December 22, 1910, John Collins, husband of Susann Collins (nee Moseder), and son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Collins, in his 40th year. Relatives and friends, also Truck 4, P. F. D., Insurance Patrol, Philadelphia Lodge, No. 13, I. O. O. F.; Haverford Council, No. 592, O. of I. A., are invited to attend the funeral, on Sunday, December 25, at 2 P. M., from his late residence, 4519 Fairmount Ave. Interment at Montrose Cemetery."

His parents were born in Pennsylvania.
