Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 3rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on May 27, 1861, and was mustered in as a Private in Company H on Junr 1, 1861. He served through three full years of his enlistment in the war, and was honorable mustered out on June 23, 1864. He then enlisted as a recruit in the 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry, being mustered in as a Private in Company C on August 24, 1864. Promoted to Corporal in December 12, 1864, he served through the end of the war, and was honorably discharged at the regimental camp near Cloud's Mills, Virginia on May 31, 1865.
