CONSTANCE MARIE CHEN died early Friday morning after fighting Parkinson's Disease for over thirty years. She explored the country as a military child, lived most of her life in California, growing up as a teenager in Long Beach and then settling in the Bay Area. She had called San Leandro home since 1970. Although Mom was well loved in the community and as a teacher's assistant at Stonehurst Elementary School, her life's work and true passion was to raise and educate her seven daughters and one son. She spent most of her life encouraging her children to learn, to experience new things, to explore possibilities, and to challenge established ideas. Mom was also firmly committed to studying the traditional Latin Catholic Mass and learning Latin. She is survived by her devoted husband, Norman L. Chen, her daughters, Lei Hsia Chen, I-Fan Chen-Hall, Mei Lan Chen, AnTuan Chen Tabor, Lu Shan Chen Gordan, Su Lan Chen Shediac and Jacqui Chen Gerbracht; her son, Norman Hsiang Chen, 15 grandchildren, and her sister Carole Wagnalnd. She will be missed. Services will be held at Santos Roibinson Mortuary in San Leandro on Tuesday, August 5, at 4PM.
