Alice was born in Welland, Ontario, Canada to Joseph S. McQueen (Canadian born) and Margaret S. Hendrick (US born). Her birth records show her middle name as May.

Her sister Victoria and brothers Herbert and James were born in Canada and brother Sam was born in Chicago, Illinois. They later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she met Paul Anderson. They were married and their two children, Dorothy and John, were born in Philadelphia. Paul was in the Navy and shortly after the birth of their son Paul was transferred to New London, Connecticut where they lived until he retired and they moved to Los Angeles, California. Paul built them a home where they lived until her death.

The year of Alice's birth is listed incorrectly on her grave marker because she never told Paul of the correct date. He learned that she was born in 1885 after her death when he received funds from her life insurance policy. This was after the marker had been placed.
