Lance Cpl. Philip J. Martini of Lansing, Illinois expressed strong desire for a career and told his family that he wanted to become a social worker after he left the Marines. He graduated in 2000 from Thornton Fractional South High School in Lansing, where he played football and baseball. He was popular and loved to have a good time. Philip was an avid fisherman who really enjoyed a family trip they took to Canada. He once asked to have his ashes spread in Lake Michigan because of his love of water. He had three brothers, James, Anthony, and Joseph and called his mother, Laura, one of his heroes. Also his father, Philip S. Martini. He was 24.
