Little Brenda Sue was murdered by person or persons unknown after walking her little sister to school one summer morning.

This year (2006) due to the efforts of her two younger sisters, this cold case has been reopened, and Brenda Sue's remains have moved from her original burial site in Harnett County, North Carolina to a site nearer her family in Shelby.

A series of articles, along with photographs, was published recently by "The Shelby Star" and can be viewed at:

This little girl's death changed the lives of all children in our city. Gone were the days we could run into the woods, or out to the city park, or wander downtown, or even down the block to play. Parents didn't want us out of their sights, the buddy system popped up, never again could a child be alone. Such a tragedy for the Brown family, such a tragedy for children everywhere.

Update: An arrest was made, but we still await trial.

Update: The man who allegedly murdered this beautiful child died before ever being brought to trial. Some one suggested that I add his name & the story of the delay of the trial to this memorial. However, this memorial is for Brenda Sue, to celebrate her short, much loved little life. He is not/was not worthy of being mentioned here.

May her family finally find peace.

Blessings.

Judy
