Marty E. Hoffman, of Hanover, entered into eternal rest suddenly and unexpectedly October 4, 2008 as the result of an auto accident.
He was the son of Edward W. Hoffman II and his wife Nancy L. of McSherrystown, and Ruth A. (Kemper) Hoffman of Gettysburg.
Marty worked as a carpenter in his brother's business, Kurt Hoffman Ceilings. When business was slow, he would help out other construction friends or stay a few days at his brother's home to help Kurt and his wife remodel their home. He was a hard worker and constantly on the go. He was a member of the McSherrystown Home Association.
He loved his cats and had five: Freak, Taz, Davy, Spunk and Tiger. His cats were his world and as far as he was concerned, his children, and he would spoil them by feeding them canned food daily or the occasional special treat he made for them himself. He and his fiancée, B.J., even trained Tiger to meow when spoken to and would play hide-and-seek with Taz. Marty would cover the cat's eyes while B.J. hid in another room and called the cat. Marty could never turn away a cat and he loved all animals. If he saw a squirrel going down the road he'd stop and let it go across.
Marty also enjoyed spending time with his family and was a fan of NASCAR racing with Mark Martin being his favorite driver. He also loved watching the Dallas Cowboys play and on Sunday's it was a tradition for Marty and B.J. to make hot wings for the game. He was known for his terrific hot wings and chili
He was the fiancé of B.J. Harner of Hanover and surviving, in addition to her and his parents, are a stepson, Derek Bankert of Hanover; three brothers, Craig Hoffman of Virginia, Kurt Hoffman of Troy, and Edward Hoffman III of Hanover; two step-brothers; James Laughman of McSherrystown and Jay Laughman of New Oxford; and several nieces and nephews.
