John 'Jack' Ball


John "Jack" Ball, 80, of Redding, died at his home with family present, Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born May 29, 1925, in North Platte, Neb., to the late Hardy and Marie Ball.

In 1941, the Ball family moved to Salinas, where Jack resided for 62 years before moving to Redding in 2003. He was a U.S. Postal Service employee for 37 years. After his retirement in 1980, Jack enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Military:Jack was a World War II veteran, who enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was later recalled to service during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors:Wife of 43 years, Betty M. Ball of Redding; three daughters, Linda (Jeff) Gans of San Jose, Eileen (Jim) Tulanian of Grass Valley, and Jaclyn (John) Gates of Redding; four grandchildren, Michele Hudson, Joshua Nelson, and Taylor and Morgan Nance; sister, Pauline Watson of Salinas; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends. Jack was preceded in death by two infant sons, two brothers, and a sister.


Services:A private family service will be held at a later date at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Salinas.

Donations:In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Hospice, 1544 Market St., Redding, Calif. 96001-1023; or the American Cancer Society.
