Drennan, Monsignor William Anthony, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Wed., August 6, 2014, at the age of 85.
Dear son of the late Thomas Patrick Drennan and Emily (nee Neubert) Drennan; dear brother of Joseph W. Drennan, and the late Thomas J. Drennan, Sr.; dear brother-in-law of Mary Helen (nee Bird) Drennan and the late Lucia S. (nee Lohmann) Drennan, dear uncle of Thomas J. (Marjory) Drennan, Jr., Mary Ann (Howard) Logan, Paul A. (Camille) Drennan, Kathleen Ann (Robert) Schmidt, William A. Drennan, and Patrick J. (Jeanne) Drennan; dear great uncle, great-great uncle, and friend.
He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Louis on March 26, 1955; served as an associate pastor at St. Edwards Catholic Church in North St. Louis City, the New Cathedral Basilica, and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in University City; served as a chaplain at Barnes Hospital for one year; served as pastor of Ascension Catholic Church in Chesterfield from 1972 to 1988, and at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church in South St. Louis from 1988 to 2005; and served as senior priest in service at St. Alban Roe Catholic Church in Wildwood after 2005.
He was valedictorian of his high school class at Christian Brothers High School in 1947 and was inducted into the CBC Hall of Fame; was named a monsignor on June 28, 1995, and received the Great Preacher Award from the Aquinas Institute in 2005.
Visitation at Ascension Catholic Church, 230 Santa Maria Drive, Chesterfield, MO 63005 on Friday, August 8th from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral at Ascension Catholic Church, 230 Santa Maria Drive, Chesterfield, MO 63005 on Saturday, August 9th at 10:00 a.m., with interment at Resurrection Cemetery, 6901 Mackenzie Road, St. Louis, MO 63123. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Office of the Propagation of the Faith of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, 20 Archbishop May Drive, St. Louis, MO 63119, or to Forest Park Forever, 5595 Grand Drive, St. Louis, MO 63112.
