Alexis B. Collins was born on November 11, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Alexis Collins Sr and Cleotis (McDonough) Collins. He was married to Virginia Orr Mansfield. Alexis was a Supervisor for Chicago Transit Authority, a US Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict, a member of Saint Peters United Church of Christ in Elmhurst, Illinois. In Clarksville, Tennessee he was a member of Madison Street United Methodist Church.

He was a Lifetime member of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Elmhurst Lodge 941 now located in Bensenville, Illinois; Past President of Gateway Health Auxiliary, 2002-2004; Honored with a Scholarship in his name "Alexis Collins Continuing Education Scholarship;" Past President of Willard Blue Sunday School Class at Madison Street United Methodist Church; and founder of the original Stephen Ministry at Madison Street United Methodist Church in early 2000.

Eighty years old and a resident of Clarksville, he passed away on January 7, 2013 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Frank Collins and sister Betty Collins. Survivors include his wife; a married step-son; brother; sister; and four step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Madison Street United Methodist Church Chapel, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Honorary Pallbearers were the members of the Willard Blue Sunday School Class.
