Death of W. C. Moorhead
Civil War Veteran and Old Resident Passed Away Last Night.
Cedar Rapids Gazette. Tuesday, January 29, 1907.

At 7:40 last night occured the death of W. C. Moorhead, one of the pioneers of Cedar Rapids at his home, 818 Seventh Avenue, of locomotor ataxia, from which he has suffered for several years.

Mr. Moorhead was one of the pioneer residents of this city, having lived here since 1867, and his death will be sincerely regretted in a wide circle of friends. He was 64 years of age having been born in New York in 1844. Mr. Moorhead served with distinction in the Civil War as a member of one of the Illinois Volunteer Regiments. He was a member of T. Z. Cook post, G. A. R., of this city.

Deceased is survived by a daughter, Miss Amy Moorhead, a teacher in the Adams School, a brother Thos. M. Moorhead of Manchester, and a sister Mrs. Sincox of Des Moines. His wife was a daughter of Alex. Laurance, a well known resident of Cedar Rapids at the time of his death.

The funeral will be held from the residence Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Lockwood, pastor of St. Paul's M. E. church, who will officiate in the absence of Rev. U. Franklin Smiley, of the Westminster Presbyterian church, of which deceased was a member. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
