Hoyt Haney, age 82, of Union, SC, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013, at his home.

Born in Pea Ridge, SC, on July 18, 1930, son of the late Horace G. Haney and Clara Bell (James) Haney Blackwell (1905-1976); husband of the late Vivian "Sis" Addis Haney (1928–2012).

A graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School, served his country in the U.S. Army Paratroopers, was a retired South Carolina ABC agent, later owned and operated Plantin Place, and also wrote the column called "The Pea Ridge News" for the Union Daily Times and previously for the Grapevine.

A 50-year member of the Mt. Joy Masonic Lodge, a 40-year member of the Union Masonic Lodge, a member of the York Rite Bodies, the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, the Hejaz Shriners, the Jonesville American Legion, the Redmen of Buffalo, and had served on the Board of the Kelly-Kelton Fire Department.

An active member of Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church, served as head usher, and had served on several committees of the church over the years. He and his wife were considered "adopted grandparents" to many children of the church, offering little tokens of love every Sunday. A very loved and respected gentleman by his many friends, his community, and his family.

Survivors include nephews, Kenneth "Cooter" Knox (Marie), Dennis "Sput" Knox, David Knox (Mary), Steven Addis, Donald Addis, and Jeff Addis; nieces, Frances K. Burton and Leslie Putze (Mike); sister-in-law, Ada Gregg; and several close cousins.

Also predeceased by a brother, Leon Lewis Haney Blackwell (1925-1992); sister, Gertrude Haney Knox (1924-2005).

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 5, 2013, at Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Glenn Ribelin; the burial was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was held from 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
