Maudie Viola Sargent Deel was born on Tuesday, July 28, 1891 at Mulberry, Arkansas, to Perry S. Sargent (1866-1893) and Julia A. Hyatt (1868-1919).
Her paternal grandparents were John Sargent and Mary Barnes and her maternal grandparents were Charles A. Hyatt (1840-1883) and Lavina "Melvina" Winkle (1841-1923).
Her maternal great grandparents were John A. Hyatt and Samantha Sumpter.
She married James Emmit "Jim" Deel on Sunday, June 14, 1908 in Rotan, Texas. They had five children: Annie "Florence" Deel McGaugh, Berdie Mae Deel Robinson, Avery Emmett Deel, Lindsey Graves Deel and Ollie Ivan Deel.
The family moved from Fisher County to Howard County in 1924. They lived in the Center Point area where Jim was a farmer until 1934 when they moved into Big Spring. Maudie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Big Spring.
My grandmother was a great cook. I can still taste her banana pudding!
She died on Thursday, July 21, 1966 in Big Spring, Texas. She was 74 years old.
At the time of her death she had 29 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
My grandmother died five months after my grandfather's death on the day that would have been his 78th birthday. I truly believe that she died from a broken heart. I love you and miss you Mama Deel.
