October 2,1980 ~ October 24, 2005

Sorenson Gordon Smith, returned home to her Heavenly Father on October 24, 2005, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.

Summer was born October 2, 1980, in Gunnison, Utah to Paul and Tyran Sorenson. She was a source of joy and inspiration to her entire family. She loved school, reading, poetry, the arts and had the voice of an Angel. She began her education at BYU in pre-med. She wanted to become a doctor. She graduated from BYU in April 2003. Because of her illness, she was unable to pursue her medical studies, and instead received her Bachelor's in English and a teaching degree. She began teaching at Spanish Fork High School in the fall of 2004.

While at BYU, Summer met George Gordon-Smith who became her eternal companion on May 4, 2002, in Manti LDS Temple. Together they faced and fought her illness with love and perseverance. Against all odds they were blessed with a baby boy, Maxwell who turned one on October 21st. Max was Summer's greatest joy and incentive over this last difficult year of her life.

Summer was truly an angel on this earth, and we understand why heaven wanted her home so early. She will be missed so very much. Our lives are forever blessed for having known and loved her. We long for the day we are reunited as a family.

Here is a Story that was written about her Mom & the struggles they have dealt with & have overcomed. It also tells a bit of "Summer's Story" which was published not long after she passed on KSL.com.
