Daniel was a machinist working at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton, CT for 40 years, retiring September 1987. He was also a trained motorcycle mechanic, having graduated from both the Triumph and Indian motorcycle schools.

He raced motorcycles on the local circuit in New London County, even tho' in October 1939, he'd been hit behind his left knee by a shotgun, and was told by doctors that he'd never walk again.
