A veteran of the Duncanville Police Department (Texas) passed away on Friday, following a long battle with cancer.

Sgt. Robert Brooks worked for the department for 13 years where he had received numerous awards and commendations.

He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University and was also a fire arms instructor and hostage negotiator.

Viewing will be at Jaynes Funeral Home 811 S. Cockrell Hill Rd. Duncanville on Tuesday, March 10th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 11th at 2 p.m. at the New Life in Christ Lutheran Church 311 S. Cockrell Hill Rd., Duncanville.

Robert C. Brooks, Duncanville Police Department Sergeant, was born September 24, 1971, in Germany, and passed away in the morning of March 6, 2009, at age 37, after a long bout with brain cancer. Robert was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin with a degree in Criminal Justice and had been awarded numerous commendations in his nearly 14 year career with the Duncanville P.D. He was a rugby player for the Arlington Mavericks and was known for his passion for the game. Robert is survived by his much loved son, Joshua A. Brooks; a brother, Kenneth H. Brooks; his parents, David and Inga Brooks of Granbury; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins both in Germany and the United States. Funeral services are 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at New Life in Christ Lutheran Church, 311 S. Cockrell Hill Road in Duncanville. Visitation with the family is 6-8 pm, Tuesday, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel in Duncanville.
