Served in the Union Army as a Private in Company B, 7th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Olustee, Florida on February 20, 1864, and died at Andersonville Prison of chronic diarrhea.

Son of Obediah Harriman and Hannah Hart, husband of Margaret Knox. His mother and his widow waged a long paper battle with the government over his pension, each one claiming rights to the money.
