Capt. Joseph P. Dopico
April 1, 1911 – December 4, 1967

Joseph P. Dopico was born in New York City on April 1, 1911. After the death of both parents in the Spanish Influenza epidemic in 1918, he and his brother John and sister Josefina moved to Galicia, Spain where they were raised by family and educated. He returned to the United States as an adult and was based in New York City.

He married Bernice Revelle in 1947. Capt. Dopico and his family moved to Gulfport, Florida in 1952. After his retirement from the U.S. Maritime service, he was Harbor Master at the Gulfport Marina until he suffered the first of several strokes in the early 1960s.

Captain Dopico was a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve and a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Maritime Service, with 15 years sailing with the Moore McCormick and Bull Lines. He held a master's license and was a member of the Masters, Mates, and Pilots Association. He was a charter member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Gulfport. He was a Mason and a member of the First Methodist Church of Gulfport. He is buried at Woodlawn Memory Gardens in St. Petersburg, Florida.
