He served in the Royal Army from 1871 to 1892 in the 10th Lincoln Regiment. He was stationed in Dover, Kent; Malta; Gibraltar, East India and Lincoln, Lincolnshire. He retired after serving 21 years on November 8, 1892. Shortly after his retirement, he and his family moved to St. Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands, where they lived until 1908.
In November, 1908, Charles, his wife Christine Elizabeth and their children James, Kathleen, Dorothy and Margaret emigrated to Lansing, Michigan, USA to join sons Herbert and Francis. Daughter Ivy and her husband and small son joined the family in 1909. Eldest daughter Nellie remained behind, as she was married with a family of her own. Her husband was also in the Royal Army and was stationed in Ireland at the time the Vincent family emigrated.
Charles died on August 18, 1934 in Lansing, Michigan and was buried in the family plot in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Elizabeth B Vincent; three sons, Herbert and Frank, both of Detroit, and James of Lansing; four daughters, Mrs. Nellie Hawlette of London, Eng., and Mrs Ivy (sp.) Devaney, Mrs. E. Wilkinson (sp.) and Mrs. L Siefert. all of Lansing, and 20 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the home to St. Mary's church Monday morning at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
