My brother, my best friend, I know you fought to the very end.

*Snips from the Tribute I wrote for his services*

Our parents were divorced right after I was born, so he became the "man of the house" at a very young age; he being the only male in the house, he learned how to take care of his "girls"…… and that he did until the day he died. He walked all his girls down the isle, including me twice!! His bond with his "boys", his son and grandson was equally close.

He was the first man I ever loved and my heart hurts so bad without him.

When I was a little older and could wash dishes, he would promise me a quarter to do the dishes for him, of course I never got the quarter! So Bub, instead of pennies from Heaven, I expect quarters! (I've found three quarters since he passed)

Bub was the "King of his Castle" right from the beginning. He took care of the "man jobs around the house"; but he also took care of the children as they were born, feeding; changing diapers; washing diapers; walking the floors with them when they were sick. However, Pat took such good care of him, she'd take his shoes off when he got home from work, get him a glass of water, and wait on him hand and foot…....

He'd get her coffee ready for her every morning, took her to work and picked her up every day; do the grocery shopping, etc. Often she wouldn't like the food in the cafeteria, so he'd run and get her lunch, a lot of times getting food for the girls she worked with and he wouldn't take a dime from them. They all loved him and often told her how lucky she was to have such a wonderful man!

Bub was the instigator of many water fights…… I remember one was with hot water, another was with buckets and he chased me down the street. We even took hoses and buckets into houses…..We flooded many of homes. Of course we also had a good many cake fights on birthdays….. the last one being at his 60th birthday – 3 years ago. I went easy on him, but he wasn't so polite in getting me back!

We were all members of the Eagles Lodge at the same time, I think that was the first time I danced with my brother is at one of the dances there. He was very active in the lodge and he became President.

Bub liked to gamble, (not a high roller man) not sure when it started but I remember between him and Mom, we didn't play any games without having to put some money up! He taught all his kids and grandkids how to play poker with him as soon as they could walk! After they moved to Modesto around 1973, they would take off and go to Tahoe or Reno for his birthday's…. The last few years he and Pat would go to Chicken Ranch or Black Oak … They started having poker parties at June and Haskell's, then beginning in 1999 we started having an annual poker party at our house on New Years Eve.. No matter how bad he felt , he came every year….. even if he had to drive around the corner to our house…

Bub being a child born in the 40's, he still loved all the old cars. They would always go to the Graffitti parades and could name the make and year of all the cars. If he'd see one as we were driving somewhere, he'd point it out and say "did you see that 1957 Chevy" (or whatever the car was)..

He never tired of music from his era and often ran around singing in his "Elvis voice"….. the last 10 years or so, he'd call me on my birthday and sing Happy Birthday to me in his Elvis voice. However, last year he tried Marilyn Monroe.

Pat wasn't a good cook in the beginning, so he did a lot of the cooking, learning from our mom… during the summers he always bbq's, but he could also cook a mean meatloaf; his potato and macaroni salads were to die for….. not to mention no one can ever out do his gravy or deviled eggs, oh and I loved his twice baked pototoes… those secrets went to the grave with him. He used to always say he wanted a BBQ for his birthday since he was always BBQ'ing for everyone's birthdays….. but it was always cold for a BBQ on his birthday in January.

When the kids were all home, they'd often do little treasure hunts around the house at Christmas time…. They were always playing pranks on each other.

Bub always made every holiday special for everyone he loved, from buying all of Pat's clothes, to making sure I got a box of See's Truffles for Mother's day every year… I got them for Valentine's day this year, did he know something? After I got Chippy, he made sure Chippy bought me a card for whatever holiday.

Last week at the hospital, he was medicated after some testing and I couldn't get him to wake up when I left to go home, I even went back and forth into the room 3 or 4 times to try and wake him up…… I made Pat promise to call me as soon as he woke up. I got a 7am "wake up" call from him to let me know he was ok. Later on that day, while visiting with him downstairs, he was pretty weak. I asked him "who I was" and he replied "Marlene"….. I went into shock, I said "Marlene who", he said "Marlene Nason" (our sister) then I heard a little chuckle from him. That was the last joke he played on me. I can still hear his voice yelling "I love you too" as I walked to the car that day.

We always had to call him and let him know we got to where we were going and home safe. He would go to their bathroom window so he could see me walk in my front door from their place…… When news had to be spread, we call this the "Nason Network"…..

Bub was a simple man, he only needed a reliable car to drive; a TV to watch the Game Show Channel and old reruns; seven bags of Jack Frost ice; Little Debbie's; and whatever sweet treat he was into at the time…. Jack Frost and Little Debbie's stock is going to drop without him here.
