PFC Jack W Hall removed his life jacket; then turned the switch to start the boat. Unknown to him, someone had pulled the throttle outwards. The boat shot off the bank and into deep water. Jack and his childhood friend, Leonard Hornbuckle were thrown out. Leonard's wife Barbara watched the struggle from her seat on shore. She was 8 months pregnant. Leonard tried to throw a life jacket to his friend. The target missed. Two men rowed by and laughed while Jack fought for his life. A few seconds later he went under for the 3rd time. It was 7 am on a beautiful Sunday morning. His body was found 3 hours later resting atop a small dam. His spirit and soul were already in Heaven. He is still missed and so loved by his family and his fiancee' Faith. He was 25 years, 2 weeks and 5 days of age when Jesus called. "All We Ask Of You Is To Forever Remember Us As Loving You... We will meet you across the river and never be separated again. None of us or our children have ever been to Lake Lanier."

Jack had come home on leave from the Army so he and his fiancée, Sally Faith "Pete" Rogers could marry . Their actual wedding date was set for Sunday, the 3rd of June. However, they eloped. Neither of them had enough money to buy new clothes and shoes for a church wedding. A soldier's pay wasn't much.

He lost his life days later.

Rev. Guy Rainwater, pastor of Eastside Baptist Church and Rev. Earl Paulk officiated at Jack's service, which was held at Rev. Paulk's church.
