This is to honour the heros of Raclawice battle, of 4 April 1794. During the Kosciuszko insurrection against the Russians, Polish volunteers defeated the invador's army. On both sides about 500 soldiers died. "Kowalski" is the most common Polish name. Raclawice is about 30 km northeast of Krakow.
Tadeusz Koœciuszko (1746-1814) was a Polish nobleman both active in the American and Polish wars of independence. In America, he is known above all for his participation in the battles of Ticonderoga and Saratoga (1777) and his contribution in the construction of Fort West Point, N.Y.
