He was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Vigo County, the son of Roy Franklin and Mattie Ellis Boling. He was a 1951 graduate of Blackhawk High School in Vigo County. He received a teaching license in 1964 and a principal's license in 1969, both from Indiana State University. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for 14 years at the Visking Corp. in Terre Haute. He taught and was the assistant principal for two years at Greencastle Middle School and principal there for 28 years, retiring in 1992. He and his wife had lived in Patriot for the past nine years. He was a member of Patriot Baptist Church. He also served as president of the Patriot and Posey Park Board and was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed boating, fishing, woodworking, his church and community service.
He is survived by his wife, C. Janette Heady Boling, whom he married March 12, 1955; one daughter, Janet Boling Larch of Indianapolis; two sons, Timothy D. Boling of Avon and Ronald Gayle Boling of Griswold, Conn.; two brothers, Don Boling of Farmersburg and Darrell Boling of Warsaw; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dixie Pound; and three grandchildren.
The funeral was at Patriot Baptist Church. A graveside service and burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley. Full military honors were conducted graveside.
