~*~Ron's Father~*~

Roman Walter "Monie" Kessler was born on June 24, 1915 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was the seventh of nine children born to Frank and Julia Kessler.

Roman married Lillian Kelly, originally from Bay City, on April 22, 1939 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Saginaw. Very sadly, their first child, Carol Ann, did not survive a difficult labor and birth on March 13, 1941. They were later blessed with three healthy sons, Ronald, Larry, and Theodore "Ted."

Before and after his marriage to Lillian, Roman's favorite outdoor passions were fishing and hunting. Lillian shared many of these experiences with Roman, and together they introduced these sports to their three sons. There were many family experiences of hunting and fishing trips, camping, and week long vacations at a favorite cabin resort at Ocqueoc Lake near Onaway in northern Michigan.

Roman was a very good worker and provider for his family. For a time he worked at Saginaw's Chevrolet Transmission plant. During several layoffs at the plant, he would perform a variety of other jobs including coal delivery, oil delivery, painting, and construction. He then secured a steady job as a tool machine repairman and rebuilder at Miles Machinery in Saginaw where he worked for many years before his untimely death from a sudden heart attack on March 7, 1972.

Roman was loved and has been missed by so many people. He had two young grandchildren at the time who he was already taking on fishing trips to Ocqueoc Lake. He so loved those two little boys who never really got to know their wonderful grandfather.
