Sammy was the first cat I ever had as a pet. I adopted him from the Humane Society on December 8th 1992. Actually he chose me, he walked right up to me. He was beautiful. He was 11 months old. As soon as I met him, I knew he had to come home with us. I had wanted to name the cat I was going to adopt, "Muffin", but Sammy already had a name, so my mom told me it was not in the best interest of the cat to change his name. I went along with it. Thank goodness because Sammy did not act like a Muffin.
He was more than a pet of course. He was a very frisky cat when he was a one year old. He mellowed out with age. When I got two puppies, he would follow us when I would take the dogs out for walks. He was a sweet cat who was so patient with two playful puppies. We were concerned they would be too much though so he went back to live with my grandmother ( his first home ). Before he died, he had started losing a lot of weight. The vet could never diagnose what was wrong until it was too late. He had some type of congestive heart failure. He went from being a huge, vibrant, happy cat to a thin, dull coated cat. His spark was gone.
He was relieved of his suffering by the vet, he was put to sleep. We all still think about that special cat.
