United States Air Force Master Sgt. Magnani, of Martinez, California, died near Bagram, Afghanistan, in a non-combat related incident. He worked as a biomedical equipment technician in the 31st Medical Support Squadron, Aviano Air Base, Italy. Patrick was a pleasant surprise to his parents, they didn't know twins were expected. He graduated in 1987 from College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, California, where he still holds two records in track - 15.4 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 41.4 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles. After spending a year at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill and working at several different jobs, in 1989 he surprised his family by enlisting in the Air Force. He volunteered for duty in Greenland, South Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan and was stationed over the years in Spain, England, Beale Air Force Base in Marysville (Yuba County), Germany, Italy and Washington D.C., adapting to life wherever he was. A capable photographer, each excursion was shared pictorially with family and friends eager to view the world through his experiences. He is survived by his parents Jeanne and Thomas; 2 brothers, his twin Christopher, and Michael; a sister, Katie; a niece and nephew. The Meritorious Service Medal was awarded to him posthumously. His friends remembered his love of adventure, knowledge of history and different cultures, his quick smile and his love of Belgian beer. Bio by: Sue
