DIDDAMS Blaine Flower, Sgt - 8239384 Royal Australian Army- Special Air Service Regiment
Son of Peter and Cate, husband of Toni-Ann, brother to Nikki, Sian, Christian, Luke, father to Elle-Lou and Harry.
Blaine Diddams entered the Army in 1990 and was posted to 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, Townsville, Queensland, Australia, within a year.
Blaine was a professional soldier who passed all the necessary exams and in 1995 was posted to the elite S.A.S.R. in Perth, Western Australia.
This was his 7th posting to Afghanistan, having formerly served in SAomalia, East Timor and the Soloman Islands.
Although wearing protection Sgt Diddams was shot in the chest during a firefight with insurgents, after being dropped in the area by helicopter. Taken by helicopter to hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival at Tarin Kowt.
He was farewell by his Army mates at a memorial Service held at Camp Russell, Multi-National Base, Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan, after which his body was flown home to Australia for burial.
