Isobel J. Lowther
Mrs. Eugene T. Lowther, an Emporia resident for more than 50 years, died Wednesday at Newman Hospital. Her home address was 807 Sherwood Way. In recent weeks she lived at the Emporia Rest Home. Mrs. Lowther was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and United Presbyterian Women. For many years she was active in Junto Social Service Club and the Alumnae group of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority.
The funeral will be Friday at 10:30 A.M. in Blair-Carlson Mortuary Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Allen Denton. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Contributions to the Emporia Public Library may be sent in care of the mortuary.
Isobel J. Milne, daughter of James A. and Isabella Henderson Milne, was born Feb. 13., 1905, in Guthrie, Okla. She attended schools in Atchison, Kan. and one year at the Lindenwood School for Girls in Missouri. She graduated from Emporia State University in 1926 and taught school for two years in Winfield. She married Eugene T. Lowther on Sept. 3, 1928. Mr. Lowther, a newspaperman with The Gazette for many years, died June 27, 1969.
Survivors include one son, James E. Lowther, 1549 Berkeley Road, two granddaughters, Rebecca Guilfoyle and Anne Lowther, and two great-granddaughters, and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Lowther, of the Emporia Rest Home. Two brothers died earlier.
