OBITUARY
L. S. Roberts
Linzie Sheldon, oldest of seven children born to Lucy Jane and Benjamin Franklin Roberts, was born at La Crosse, Mo., on Feb. 3, 1885, and died at Larned on Oct. 10, 1964. At an early age, because of the illness of his father, it became necessary for him to quit school and go to work to help support the other members of his family.
On Jan. 10, 1906, he was united in marriage to Martha Elizabeth Pearl Bracley, at Gifford, Mo. Two daughters and four sons were born to this union.
Mr. Roberts ran a harness shop while at Gifford. In 1909 the family moved to Kansas and lived for a time at Hazelton and then Attica before coming to Larned in 1920. He operated a shoe repair ship here for 35 years he was a custodian for the Larned City Schools.
From 1942 to 1945 he served on the city council and for several years was a member of the Chamber of Commerece.
Mr. Roberts was a member of the Larned Christian Church and had served as an elder, church school superintendent and a church school teacher. He was a cheerful and pleasant person and led an active life. He was a hard worker and a devoted, kind and loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, two brothers and one sister, he was preceded in death by his son, Arthur, in March of 1963.
Besides his wife, Pearl, of the home, he leaves to mourn his passing, two daughters, Mrs. Norman (Lora) Williams, Great Bend, and Mrs. Ross (Nadine) Smith, Larned; three sons, Otis and Earl, Larned and Raymond, Broomfield, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, one sister, Mrs. Lillie Shumaker, Elmer, Mo.; two brothers, Ben, Kiowa, and Clarence, Winfield, and other relatives and friends.
He was a great inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held at the Beckwith Mortuary, Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. John H. Cain officiating. Eugene Campbell, accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Miller, sang "Near To The Heart Of God" and "It Is Well With My Soul."
Casket Bearers were Harold Burns, Floyd Berglund, Clayton Milloway, Asher White, Jack Akers and Ed Knobloch. Honarary bearers were Earl Gore, Lee Boley, O. H. Fell, George Alley, Charles Clutter Jr. and Charles Fletcher.
Interment was in the Larned cemetery.

LARNED - Linzie Sheldon Roberts, 79, died Friday afternoon at St. Joseph Hospital in Larned after and illness of nearly three weeks. Born Feb. 3, 1885 at La Crosse, Mo., he had lived in Larned the past 44 years. He operated a shoe repair shop 35 years and seved as school custodian seven years. He married Pearl Bradley Jan. 10, 1906 at Gifford, Mo. He served on the Larned city council from 1942-1945.
