Little of nothing is known about Simon's early life, to include the actual names of his mother and father, or if he had any siblings. The first documentation on Simon was found on the marriage bond where he applied for a license to marry Mary Anna Lee Pier on 2 Jan 1896. Mary was 1 of 12 children born from the marriage of Perry Washington Pier, Sr. and Mary E.(Griffith) Pier, all of whom were raised in Fauquier Co., VA.
On the marriage license of Simon and Mary, the name of Simon's parents is almost illegible--but appear to be "Henry" and either "Lonnie" or perhaps "Bonnie" Stickle; the wife's maiden name is also not known. And to continue the mystery of just who Simon's parents were, when our family discovered the actual Marriage Bond at Clarke County Clerk's office years ago--it was found to have been signed by Perry W. Pier, Sr. because at the time, Mary Anna Lee was only 16 years old--and there was a large, black ink "blob" created over that part of the record that list the names of Simon's parents. Strange, very strange.
Simon worked and lived around the village/town of Bluemont in Loundoun County, Virginia for the remainder of his life. At the time of his death (1917; age 44) he was living on Rt. 734 near the intersection of of Rt. 831 (Yellow School House Road). His last employment was believed to be as a foreman on the large dairy farm there in Bluemont owned by Mr. Frank McComb, which was later purchased by Mr. James Brownell (circa 1959).
The marriage of Simon and Mary Anna Lee produced five sons: William "Willie" Melvin Stickles; Harmon "Puddy" Lucille Stickles; Hubert "Babe" Montague Stickles; James Edward Stickles; and Joshua "Jake" Clay Stickles. All of these individuals are buried in the same family plot in Bloomfield, VA. except infant James Edward--who is buried in Clarke Co. Ebenezer Cemetery (no grave stone)just east of the top of the mountain off of old Route 7.
Simon died on 5 Dec. 1917 at his home in Bluemont of complications from 'Pleurisy, with Empyzema'-- which evidently started as pneumonia only a few days earlier.
The last mystery linked with Simon is his wife Anna Lee and a witness posting of the word "unknown" for Simon's father and mother, orbirthplace on his VA. Certificate of Death. Sadly, does this actually mean that Simon actually never knew that his real father was Thomas M. Stickles?

The belief now is that Thomas and Maggie only had two children of their own: LOLA LEE (STICKLES) POPKINS (b: 21 Mar 1877 - d: 18 Feb 1912), and CHARLES CLINTON STICKLES(b: 6 May 1878 - 23 Aug 1951). HENRY ASA ???? sometime later joined Thomas M. and Maggie's family--possibly through some arrangement of/by Thomas M. grandfather HENRY STICKLES III ("The Puppet Master"). There is also reason to believe that Henry Asa Stickles might have even been a second cousin of Simon's.

NOTE: *** Today it is commonly believed that Simon M. was the only child born to first marriage of THOMAS W. STICKLES (b:Apr 1845 - d: Apr 1928) and RACHETTA (CORNELL) STICKLES (b:circa 1854 - d:Feb 1873 - Dec 1875) who married in Doddridge Co., WV in 1872. Not only is the date and place of death, burial location of Rachetta unknown, the same is true of Thomases second wife: MARGARET 'MAGGIE' (HAWES) STICKLES (b: 1847 - d: after 1878).

*** Some of the remaining family lineage members of Simon M. Stickles have completed initial DNA testing and received their written test results. For addition info, answers to questions, links relating to same
