Beloved son of Mary Blakely Camp. Beloved step-son of Lawrence J. Camp Sr.. Beloved brother of Opal Travis Gullett. Beloved half-brother of: Lawrence Camp Jr., Charles W. Camp, Wyona Camp Bellomy, and Wayne Camp.

James was inducted into the army on August 7, 1943 to fight in WWII. He was stationed at Fort Devens, Mass before going overseas. He left for overses duty with an engineers' corps on August 1, 1944. James was wounded in action on August 23, 1944 in France and died two days later on August 25, 1944. He was 19 years old.

James' body was returned home to Xenia, Ohio in August of 1948. His body arrived by train from the Columbus General Depot on September 7, 1948. A burial with military service was held on September 9, 1948. The military service was conducted by Greene County Post, No. 718, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
