Marvel was the second youngest of six children born to John Christian & Frances Marvel (Barnhart) Gnass; her mother was from Indiana and her father was a recent German immigrant. She grew up in Royal Oak and graduated in 1942 from Royal Oak High School. Outings to the Farmer's Market, the Zoo, and simply walking uptown to shop were some favorite pastimes. She held several office jobs before marrying, including positions with the Detroit Yellow Pages and the Patricia Stevens Modeling Agency. She moved to Detroit after marrying, where she lived until about four years ago when she moved to Livonia. Marvel loved to dance and music was always a part of her life. She was a private and independent person who always put the needs of others before her own. Marvel will be fondly remembered for her gentle personality and smile. Predeceased by her; husband Stanley, parents, sister Ethel, brothers John (Jack) and Mervyn. Survived by her two daughters Leslie and Julie, four grandchildren and two brothers, Russell and Vernon Gnass.

OUR MOMENT
by: Frances Marvel Gnass
(Marvel's mother)

This is our moment-
Our souls ascend
Heavenward,
To mingle with the beauty
Of the stars.
Cares of earth forgotten-
The moment is ours.
