Obituary - Gail (Gay) Elaine Conn, oldest daughter of Johnnie Lee Conn and Hazel Myra Dixon, was born November 8, 1949, in La Grande, Union County, Oregon, and departed this life Saturday, September 11, 2010, at the Bellevue Community Hospital in Bellevue, Sarpy County, Nebraska, at the age of 60 years, 10 months, and 3 days. "Ma Bell" as she was affectionately called during most of her married life spent her childhood and early years moving with her family to various locations in the western United States. She graduated May, 1967 from Brewster High School in Brewster, Washington.

On December 23, 1968, she was united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Rocky Ford, Colorado, to Dennis Leroy Bell, son of Melvin Carl Bell and Helen Virginia DeMoss. To this union were born six children: Mari Kathryn on August 26, 1970, at Lahr, West Germany; Robert Carl on January 4, 1973, at Lahr, West Germany; Melinda Ann on October 21, 1976, at Hill AFB, Utah; John Samuel on March 26, 1978, at Bremerhaven, West Germany; Thomas Lee on December 6, 1980, at Plano, Texas; and Sarah Elizabeth on September 24, 1984, at Offutt AFB, Nebraska.

In March of 1970 the couple joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sealed in the Switzerland Temple on March 20, 1971. Gay fulfilled callings in Primary and Relief Society but her love was family history where over the years she helped hundreds of people research and document their ancestors.

The first 17 years of her married life Gay spent as an Air Force wife going with Dennis from one assignment to next. From La Junta, Colorado they moved to southern Germany, Utah, back to northern Germany, Texas and final coming to rest in Bellevue, Nebraska at Offutt AFB. Here is where they made their home since 1981. After retiring from the Air Force in 1985, Dennis worked for First Data until retiring just this past July.

Over the years Gay worked at several occupations but spent the majority of her time being a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. With 6 children it always seemed there was half of the neighborhood who stayed for dinner. Having 10 to 14 at the table was not an uncommon occurrence. Her home was eventually christened with the name of the "Bell Hotel" with the vacancy sign always on for anyone who needed a place to stay or something to eat. Many a life was touched by her love, kindness and devotion.

Gay was preceded in death by her parents, and her son John who died in a truck accident on March 18, 1999. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband Dennis of Bellevue, Nebraska; children Mari Bell of Omaha, Nebraska; Robert Bell of Bellevue, Nebraska; Melinda (Jeremy) Byers of Bellevue, Nebraska; Thomas Bell of Omaha, Nebraska, and Sarah (Daniel) Mahan of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters – Lorraine Jean Johnston of Wallowa, Oregon, Frances Ethel Knight of Ottumwa, Iowa; Coleen Goldie Maldonado of Ottumwa, Iowa; half brother – Robert Lloyd Linfoot of San Diego, California; Jimmie Lee Conn of Las Vegas, Nevada; and 12 grandchildren – Jacob Andrew Taylor, Alisha Marie Taylor, Samatha Jo Klein, Brittany Rachelle Shropshire, Elizabeth Ann Marie Bell, John Ryan Bell, Jordan Michael Byers, Jared Michael Byers, Jasmine Marie Byers, John Michael Byers, Joshua Steven Mahan, and Dustin Lee Mahan.

Gay will be greatly missed by her loved ones and a wide circle of friends.
