Ralph T. Ginn was the son of Wilber Jack and Wanda Hale Ginn born November 2, 1957 in Warren County, Ohio.
Beloved brother to Emma (GINN) Wooten, Ann GINN, Sandra (Ginn) Haygood, and Kathy Ginn Hollin.
Ralph was a student of Kings High School, Kings Mills, Warren County, Ohio, home and country of the Knights. He was mentally challenged and was in the Special Education Class. He was due to graduate from school the year of his death.
Ralph loved life and was the type of person who thought everyone was a friend. This preconceived idea of Ralph's could not be directed as to who to be friends with and who not. Often he chose the wrong group of friends to hang around with, hoodlums who to this day I doubt have mended their ways. I believe it was because of the challenge they presented that always drew Ralph to them. Ralph was always up for a challenge and often met adversity head on. He wanted to win everyone over to be his friend.
This sort however would not be the type to win over as friends. In the end they were responsible for Ralph drowning in the Little Miami River on May 17, 1977. They stood by watching as he was drowning and he could not understand why they would not help rescue him instead, because after all he thought of them as friends and friends just didn't do those things to another friend. Another fellow came along to find what was happening and he tried to help Ralph but it was too late. Ralph passed away believing that everyone was his friend and that eventually one of them would have reached out to help him.
What led to this crime and how it evolved and took place is chilling to this day and absolutely disgusting. It clearly leaves a bad testimony on those scoundrels. No one could prove they committed the crime, yet what led up to it led everyone to know a certain group was clearly without doubt responsible for blatantly murdering Ralph.
They were known to brag about the incident. The school took steps to prevent them from graduating. Everyone backed the school concerning this issue. They were told their diplomas were being withheld and that if they came forward to complain concerning this they would be arrested for the murder of Ralph, as the police were to be watching to see who stepped forward to complain. They would instead be given a roll of blank paper in place of a diploma of graduation. They never stepped forward to complain and never graduated from school.
I never feared them and always found their kind despicable. I cannot understand how a person finds it in their hearts to harass others, especially those with challenges in life. I still to this day do not understand, nor care to, that type of mind set and soul. I have searched for a memorial for this young man who thought everyone was his friend, and was not able to find one. I have finally been able to locate his place of burial, Rose Hill Cemetery in Mason, Warren County, Ohio. There is still so much I did not know about Ralph. Perhaps someone related to Ralph or someone who knew the family will step forward and fill in the blanks and add more personal information about this young man who saw everyone as a friend. This memorial is for you Ralph. You have friends who care.
