Jeffrey was my baby brother. He was born on a hot July day in 1980. He was the second child and first and only son of Dean and Pamela (Taft) Choquette. We were only able to have him with us for about two weeks before the unthinkable happened. My mother put him down for a nap, and with my dad in the other room, she went to take a shower. After her shower, she checked on him and he was blue. My parents rushed him to the hospital. The doctors were able to get him to breathe again, but only with the help of a respirator. Jeffrey stayed on life support for his remaining days, as brain activity ceased. He was all cut up from their testing, they even had to shave his full head of black hair, all trying to save his life.

On August 13, 1980, my parents had to make a decision that no parent should have to make. They decided to have their only son taken off of life support. I was only 17 months old when he went to be with God. Our parents went on to have two more sisters for us, but never forgot their only son. He was laid to rest atop our great-grandmother, Leona Flohr. In 2007, our niece, Marianna Lee Reed joined him in Heaven and was laid to rest with him. I hope he's found the peace in Heaven that he wasn't able to have in his life.
