Jesse had spent the previous summer with his aunt Melinda and attended Sunday school with her. He enjoyed playing basketball. He is survived by his mother, Mary Alice Turner of Midway Park; his father, Jessie L. Oates of Mount Olive; three sisters, Lauren Oates, Sharetha Oates, and Latasha Oates all of Midway Park; and two brothers, Anthony Oates and Nicholas Oates both of Midway Park. Jessie died in a fire at his residence at age 12 along with four of his siblings, QuaNesha, Diamond, Dorene, and Amanda, and his niece, Amanda's daughter, Angela
