John was the son of Wayne and Mary T. Zima Ogle. He told the story of his birth as follows "My mother had a younger brother named Jackie or John Patrick Zima. He died suddenly at the age of 14 on September 4, 1945. On September 3rd 1949 the doctor told my mom that I was due on October 17th as they thought and to start coming in once a week. I was born the next morning September 4, 1949 at 2:35 AM exactly 4 years to the day, hour and minute that Uncle Jackie was born and I look like him. So my birth was hailed as an Irish miracle and I was spoiled."
