Abandoned by a feral mother in Muir Woods at three weeks, she was found and fostered for three months, until September of 1985, when her picture was circulated at work with the goal of finding a permanent home for her. When her picture came my way, I declined to look at it. At the end of the day I learned that no one had wanted to adopt her. I wondered how everyone could have passed on a cute kitten and I asked to see the picture. It showed a tiny, gray, striped animal with it's mouth wide open, emitting a soundless screech, that, to me, said "Please! Take me home!" It was love at first sight.
I had her spayed at nine months and when i went to pick her up, they brought her out, complaining loudly and bitterly about her treatment. When she saw me, she became silent, reached out to me like a child and clung to me with her face buried in my shoulder. For almost 14 years she was my best friend and constant companion at home. She was waiting for me at the front door every evening when I came home from work and she slept by my side every night. She was the most intelligent cat I have ever known. I will not ever forget her.
